It used to be warm around this time of year last year. People would wear their short shorts/three quarter pant and stuff....and most girls would be in singlets. Instead, we received 3 days of 30+ degree weather, and then now we're facing 17 degs, with south winds T-T. South winds are cold T-T.
We recently had clubs day...i joined lawsoc, cmsa and a pro-life group. With the lawsoc calendar on my wall, I am quite aware of when the competitions are, and the recruitment night.
The recruitment night.
The wine/beer/fancy snacks/free pens are great. And the opportunity to see what the legal profession offers.
But I am kinda dreading the day where I am lucky enough to garner myself an interview with a big company. Do have I have what it takes to claim a summer clerkship with them? I'll be trying but....
I first have to do the CV thing. My cv is my first impression, and has to be succint, to the point, and something that stands out. The person reading my cv will have much experience reading court judgements, and stuff, if something is sub par they'll probably spot it immediately.
Next is the interview bit. Imagine that you're a bit apprehensive about interviews (well, I'm sure most people are). If I'm lucky enough to gain one, I'll be sitting through it in neat, uncomfortable clothes (I will most likely be wearing heels, and a skirt. And probably pantyhose). There won't be senior partners interviewing me, but there will be someone trusted in the company. It is likely that the said person most likely has much experience in the art of cross examination.
I know they are not going to put me on trial, I know they aren't going to be that pedantic, but it doesn't help the nerves too much when you write your cv, or when you're putting on that suit jacket for that interview. Sizing up people doesn't help too much either, its really easy to pick our your negatives and you know...blow them out of proportion. Like:
"Omigosh, that girl was that girl I got thrashed by in the moots"
"He looks so flipping calm"
"Why does everyone look so much more professional than me??"
O_O
@_@.
Sigh!
On a related but happier note, my lawsoc wall planner has a disclaimer on it. xDD? But understandable of course. We don't want no potential legal eagles suing a company based on any misleading/omitted pieces of info.
And oh, we've got 20% discounts at Spagalimi's (pizza place!) and 15% off at Street Legal (place that sells nice shoes/boots/heels. I went to take a look at stuff they sold....and the average price of boots (my winter wish list) was....$200 o_o. Steep. Maybe the boots make you feel like you're walking on clouds or something, but I can't tell since I've never owned a pair of shoes over $60 :D.
