Avatar: The Last Airbender

Hmm.

I was all hyped up to go and watch this as it was a movie adaptation of an awesometastic cartoon series. And I mean awesometastic. Remember my thing with Samurai X? Well. Avatar is a lot better - plot lines so seamless, strong themes of hope and redemption. I like the main characters! I even like the evil characters - they aren't evil just cause.

Then I read the reviews in imdb.

I know that M Night Shamalamadingdong stuffed up bad with character casting. Look at the world of Avatar. The four nations are distinctly ASIAN. Or are composed of native tribal groups (i.e. the Water Tribe people's features which were American Indian).

Then he replaced the cast with all white caucasians. I was annoyed. But hey, being caucasians doesn't mean you can't play the part right?

But the reviews.... I have never seen the rating of 1 star used so consistently. Comments of "poorly executed", "poor dialogue", "poor acting", "no character development". And the consistent feeling of rage from the fans that have actually watched it.

One fan even stated that compared to the DragonBall movie....the DB movie would have been called a comparative success. If Lissa was right about the DB movie then I should not be watching this.

Another fan suggested that money would be better spent watching Eclipse. And said fan detests Twilight.

I...suppose I'll go watch it for the special effects. Then I'll come back and rage about how much I detest M Night Shamalamadingdong and his movie.

M. Night. The inevitable one hit wonder of movies xD

I guess I'm gonna watch it... since Dev Petel is in it.... but that's about it. I don't know anything about the original series only that it was based on a cartoon with a very huge following.

I suggest you watch the cartoon first. It is so amazingly good that you cannot believe it is an american script rather than a translated anime.
