A new sport

I got my longboard (half paid for as part of my birthday present - thanks D!!).

So here is my baby.

I managed to sustain two bruises on my legs, bruising on my hand and a strained neck on the first day I rode it. This was due to me riding it down a hill(ish) bit of the park. I did actually manage to ride it on my first time longboarding with my friend's board but her board was a lot less responsive, and more stable. So I crashed at high speed and barrel rolled. I hope no one was looking.

I also get looks from the curious. It's not so common yet to see longboarders, and much less female boarders. Let alone an Asian female boarder.

Then later that night two friends came over and 'helped' me break in my board....by messing with the kickflips and denting both ends of my new board. &*^$%^$#$%

It's getting really addictive, I can't help but imagine myself on the board. Will be making slide gloves so I can start learning how to slide, kneepads so... I don't bust my knees falling over again.

Exhilarating stuff! We'll see where this leads, but I predict an interesting year :).

This, good sirs, is what a slide looks like. Nom.

please wear baggy as hell pants over the knee pads because it looks so weird when people walk around with knee pads in public.

If I end up wearing knee pads it'll be discreet and...definitely not in public. Unless you consider a deserted hill a 'public' spot? :D

what's the diff between a longboard and a skateboard?

just wondering...coz I have a skateboard. bought it many years ago but didn't manage to really learn even the basics lol...yes, I'm timid and fear the bruises. I can't even turn left or right. I only know how to slide lol

and btw...i might get a roller blade in the future though....much easier to master imo. xDD

Longboards are generally...longer. Lol but you have longboards which are shorter (like mine), which are about the length of a normal skateboard. Basically speaking the trucks and wheels differ. Longboards are (generally )more for commuting (so high speeds and such), and skateboards are for tricks. That said there are a lot of cross disciplines, e.g. my board can be used to do quite a few skateboard tricks but I am WAYYYY far from learning em! XD kinda like these ones here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H646rquepA
Same board as mine, but oh so much talent T-T

Oh do you mean cruising instead of sliding? Cause sliding is near impossible to pull on a skateboard. If you meant that though then WOW. Major kudos (and applause) for you!!

Here's a vid of people sliding on longboards :D~

Oh you could get protective equipment...sure it looks funny, but totally beats bashing your head on concrete :D~ btw I think roller skates are a bit harder to find now (according to my significant other), no one really wants them? :( sigh

lol....thanks for the explanation, i get it now ^^

oh yea, i meant cruising lol, i can sort of turn left or right but they normally fail because I was scared of turning too much and couldn't balance myself, so it was..uh...half-hearted turns LOL.

anyways, oh i meant roller blades, not skates. ( I used to have roller skates too btw, coz they're easier to learn) but down the road, i don't think they'd be any use here in my uni since it's inappropriate @_@ i mean, you don't see ppl skate or board or roller blade around here so...
