High Waisted Huh??

Last year it was the high waisted skirts. I grew to like them, previously having no opinion of them, and am now in the process of acquiring maybe one or two more chambray-ish/floral/working high waisted skirts.

But then came the high waisted shorts. Apparently they are 'in' this year? I garner this fact from walking by clothes shops. Seeing them featured with lacy, country, vintage or floaty style tops.

Why would anyone wear them? Like high waisted skirts, they make your legs look so long, couple that with heels and tada! Your legs resemble the legs of a model! Except shorter...and maybe slightly bigger (note I am referring to my legs, which obviously cannot be mistaken for a model's ones).

High waisted shorts confuse me. So I googled them. Maybe I'd like them. After all, I'd seen a few that look good in pictures. I could be convinced!

I was wrong. The majority of pictures look....weird. Like... you were wearing your bf's shorts. High waisted shorts make zee crotch area look funny. Uhm. Okhay. I will assume that this is unflattering to most people. And I also realised that they may not be so great for someone who has not much of a waist. I am an Asian female. While I own more booty (body size to butt ratio) than quite a sizeable number Asian girls, I do not have a particularly well defined waist. The last thing I want is to look like a gigantic butt. Actually there may be a few more things, but lets just not go there.

I suppose I could be convinced if I found a pair which fitted me awesomely. Kinda like a playsuit, you have to find one that actually looks good on you. Maybe shorts like this:

Floaty, cute, just like a nice high waisted skirt.

Or this:

Mmm, snazzy. Could even wear it to work!

But then I come across pictures like this:

It looks like the wrong measurements....either that or she's going on a safari trip.

And this:

AHHHH. MICKEY MOUSEEEE. AHHHH

I rest my case.

Ok, does anyone here actually *get* high waisted shorts? Would you wear one? Please explain it to me. I am no fashionista, but I have a (somewhat) defined sense of taste.
